Spotlight on Partners: As You Sow & Equileap

The challenge

Transformative shifts and new approaches are necessary to support the ambitious 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (“SDG”) related to gender equality – broadly referred to as Planet 50-50. The 95 years required to attain parity in girls’ lower secondary education for the poorest 20%, or 50 years for parity in politics, or 170 years for women to earn as much as men globally – under current interventions is far too long.

Impact objectives

WoWE’s theory of change is that the power of capital can be harnessed to accelerate the changes that will bend the arc towards gender parity. We are uniquely positioned to collaborate with partners across the value chain of capital to develop strategies that facilitate the movement of significant capital into gender lens investments (“GLI”) designed to tip broad and deep changes in favor of women and girls and the communities they empower.

Our partners

As You Sow has over 30 years’ experience as the leader in shareholder advocacy that creates lasting change in environmental and social corporate responsibility. As You Sow designed its Gender Equality Funds interactive platform leveraging Equileap data to score mutual funds on the “gender friendliness” of underlying baskets of companies.

A sample of the Top 5 Gender Equality Funds and their Annualized Returns is illustrated below.

Equileap aims to accelerate gender equality in the workplace by assessing more than 3,500 companies against its 19-criteria scorecard. Equileap also designs indices with leading index developers to provide opportunities to support gender equality and strong financial returns

Our invitation

WoWE is working with partners to disrupt the GLI landscape by influencing pools of capital in favor of women and girls and the communities they empower. Our partners include investors with mission alignment extending beyond GLI. Together, we can shift strategies from GLI as a theme on the sidelines of financial investments, to being part of an intentional analysis of the entirety of an investment strategy.
